Loss of Power at Halifax College
Thu Sep 25 2025 - 10:10:05

At around 1am on Thursday 25 September we received reports of power failures to Halifax St Lawrence accommodation blocks, laundry and common room.

Northern Power Grid, the electricity distribution network operator responsible for delivering power to homes and businesses across the North East, Yorkshire, and northern Lincolnshire in the UK, attended along with our Call out team within the hour.  The source of the problem is a cable in the road on West Moor Lane.

Northern Power Grid are now working to repair the fault over today, Thursday 25 September.  While this work is being carried out we will keep the University generators in place to minimise impact to residents.  However, there may be occasional fluctuations in power supply.

Make sure you back up your work regularly, especially if you are using online systems which rely on the WiFi.  The outages will also affect kitchen facilities, so do not leave cooking unattended.
