In order to mitigate a privilege escalation vulnerability (CVE-2024-1086), we have disabled user namespaces on all Viking nodes temporarily. This means that building (and potentially, running) Apptainer images on Viking is currently not possible.

Patching the kernel to fully address the vulnerability will require downtime. This has been scheduled for:
start: 09:00, 11th April
end:  09:00, 12th April
Viking will be inaccessible during this time period.
